Older residents of the village will remember Jimmy Pirie who had the Butchers shop at the end of Russell Street before the days of Eddie Cargill and MacDonald & Williamson. Jimmy, although in his late 80's is still a butcher in Newtyle and here he is showing off his trophies after being named Scottish Haggis Champion and Scottish Pork Sausage Champion .
